The Mekotek ritual, also known as Ngerebek Mekotek, is a distinctive tradition celebrated in the village of Munggu in the Mengwi District. During this event, men carry long bamboo poles decorated with coconut leaves and come together to form a symbolic human tower. The ritual is believed to strengthen community ties and drive away evil spirits. Participants chant and display their strength and coordination while building makeshift "ladders" from the bamboo poles.
Visitor Tips: Mekotek is an energetic event that can become crowded, so it’s a good idea to arrive early to get a great view. Wear comfortable shoes, as you may need to stand or walk for an extended period to fully enjoy the experience.
